Affinity Gain Full Planning Consent for Landmark Romford SitePosted on 23rd August 2018
Affinity are pleased to announce that we have now achieved full planning consent to regenerate the Former Romford Ice Rink and provide much needed affordable and sustainable housing to the area.
Greater London Authority (GLA), led by Sadiq Khan, The Mayor of London, authorised Havering Council to make the final decision on the planning application. Having already granted Local Authority planning consent, Havering Council quickly confirmed approval for the landmark scheme.
The Shepherd Robson designed scheme will take the currently unused former Ice Rink site and transform it into a new sustainable residential community, encompassing landscaped public realms, cycle lanes, pedestrian routes and a series of green spaces throughout the project.
In addition to the mix of build to rent, market and affordable units; the 11 block scheme of 620 1 to 4 bed apartments will also include a local supermarket, a gym, a café and a doctors surgery to enhance the community offering.
Robert Whitton, CEO of Affinity Global Real Estate said “we are very happy to be working with the local community in Romford to turn this derelict site into something the whole town can be proud of. Considering the housing shortage Havering, and indeed the entirety of London is facing, it is important that we invest in sustainable regeneration to create housing, but also revitalise the area”.
Romford is the principal town in the London Borough of Havering a historic market town. It’s identified as a Metropolitan Centre in the London Plan and in late 2018, Crossrail will stop here, which will enhance connections with Central London enabling Romford to realise its potential as a commuter town as well as connecting it to other neighbouring centres and London’s airports.
